The VA funding fee helps sustain the VA loan program. It ranges from 0.5% to 3.3% of the loan amount and can be financed into the loan. Many veterans are exempt entirely — check your status before paying.

Veterans receiving VA compensation for a service-connected disability, surviving spouses receiving DIC, and Purple Heart recipients on active duty are fully exempt from the funding fee. The fee can be financed into your loan rather than paid at closing — increasing your loan balance but reducing upfront costs.
