TPS Designation Guide
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) shields nationals of certain countries from deportation and grants work authorization. Use this guide to see if your country is currently designated, find registration dates, and learn what TPS provides.
What TPS Gives You
- Protection from deportation during the designation period
- Employment Authorization Document (EAD) — you can work legally
- Travel authorization (advance parole) in some cases
- TPS does NOT create a path to a green card on its own
- You must register during the open registration period
- File I-821 for initial registration; I-821 + I-765 for re-registration
- Fee: $50 for I-821 + $520 for I-765 (fee waivers available)
