SBP Cost vs Life Insurance
SBP is inflation-protected — annuity amounts increase with Social Security COLA annually. Once elected at retirement, SBP is hard to cancel (requires spouse's notarized consent). Since 2023, the SBP-DIC offset was eliminated — surviving spouses can now receive both SBP and DIC in full.
