NEXUS Application Process
Step 1: Apply at TTP PortalComplete your application at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov. Pay $50 fee (credit card). CBP reviews your background — wait 2–8 weeks for conditional approval.
Step 2: Schedule Interview at a NEXUS Enrollment CenterInterview must be at a joint US-Canada border enrollment center (airports and land ports of entry). Both a CBP and CBSA officer participate. Wait times: 3–18 months. Plan a border trip specifically for this.
Step 3: Attend InterviewBring passport and other requested documents. Interview is 10–15 minutes. If approved, you receive your NEXUS card within 7–10 business days.
Step 4: Add KTN to Airline ProfilesYour Known Traveler Number (KTN) activates TSA PreCheck on your boarding passes. Add it to every airline's frequent flyer profile and when booking tickets.
Step 5: Use NEXUS KiosksOn international arrivals from Canada (and other countries), use the NEXUS kiosk instead of joining the regular customs line. At some airports (Toronto Pearson, Vancouver), there are dedicated NEXUS departure lanes too.
