Medicaid Spend-Down Calculator
If your income is above your state's Medicaid eligibility limit, you may still qualify through the spend-down program. You pay out-of-pocket medical expenses until you've "spent down" the excess income — then Medicaid covers the rest of your bills for that period.
Your Income & State Limit
Only 33 states offer Medicaid spend-down (also called "medically needy" programs). Expenses that count toward spend-down: medical bills, prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health, transportation to care. Some states allow you to submit bills as prepaid or just incurred. Contact your state Medicaid office or a benefits counselor to confirm your state's exact rules.
