Dissociation Experience Scale

The DES (Bernstein & Putnam, 1986) measures how frequently you experience various forms of dissociation — from normal absorption to trauma-related depersonalization and amnesia. For each item, rate what percentage of the time you have the described experience. Do not count times when you were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Scores above 30 are generally considered clinically elevated. This tool does not diagnose — only a clinician can do that. Dissociation is highly treatable with appropriate therapy.
