Continuing Care Retirement Community Guide

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), now often called Life Plan Communities, offer independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing all on one campus — so you can age in place without moving as needs change. They require a large upfront entry fee and monthly fees. The contract type determines how your costs change as care needs increase.

Entry fees for Type A are partially refundable at many communities (50–90%). Always review the financial statements of the CCRC and consult an elder law attorney before signing.
